NEARR is an awesome organization doing great work for the breed. Breed rescue is a great way to find a lovable, healthy, forever friend. You can visit a dozen breed rescue clubs at the Bay Colony Dog Show at the Bayside Expo in Boston Dec. 4-7, 2008 (www.baycolonydogshow.com for details). Keep up your good work, NEARR!

Excellent point... just be sure you know what you are getting at a shelter and choose a reputable shelter. And not all purebreds are costly OR high maintenance... check out breed rescue clubs (basically shelters just for one breed) for prices that are comparable to a shelter. All reputable breeders will agree that a shelter dog is a great choice for someone looking to get a dog, just do your homework whichever path you take! :)
