Comments In Please Don't Raise Greedy, Entitled Children The problem I see is the adult isn't acting like an adult in that situation. Set them up for success. Instead of allowing students to take more than one, begin by saying, "Since there are only 30, everyone will be allow to have just one treat. Isn't it nice that so-and-so brought this?" and more on. The candy ar the door, don't leave it out there, HAND it to them...teaching doesn't occur only in a school building.
In Children hear the last three words of what we... I agree. I have found that instead of saying, "Don't run around the pool!..." which is ineffective, to replace my words with the action I want to see... "Walk around the pool..." to be more effective. (Praise as soon as they change their behavior!!!) If all you hear is don't do this, don't... don't... it takes time for them to think "o.k. than what SHOULD I be doing???" tell them...everyone will be happier and communicating positively. It is also more respectful to family members...
