The PBS show Arthur has a new two-part episode about adoption called Big Brother Binky, where Binky’s family adopts a baby girl from China. The episode shows Binky and his family going through the adoption process, preparing for the arrival, and then traveling to China to meet the baby. It also addresses Binky’s feelings about the new addition to the family, from excitement at the prospect of being a big brother and learning about Chinese culture, to frustration at giving up his game room so that it can become a nursery, to anxiety that his parents are more interested in his new sister than him. It also shows him working to be the “perfect” big brother. I thought it was a great show, not only because of the positive way it addresses adoption, but also how it addresses the addition of a sibling to a family. The episode is available on iTunes, and will be available on DVD next year.
