We received one of these make your own plate kits called Plate Works as a birthday present.
I sat my 4 year old down with the drawing sheets and markers and she made the cutest drawing of herself with what seemed to be one hundred legs. And she wrote her name in those HUGE, preschool letters. Then we mailed of the drawing and received the sturdy plastic plate in the mail.
We absolutely cherish that plate and she laughs about it today. It lasted through hundreds of dishwasher washes and made dinnertime fun. A great activity (or gift) for preschoolers and up. Older kids can spend hours creating intricate designs to appear on their very own plate.
