Every once and a while, you will probably see a listing of names in the newspaper from your state's unclaimed property division. On a whim one year, I looked up an elderly relative's name and she was listed! I gave her all the info and she found that she had an old savings account and an insurance refund waiting for her!   Did you know you can search those databases online?  Almost every state has a website you can search for unclaimed property - this website from the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) links to them all. Check every state you have ever lived in - it takes two seconds and might be worth it!
