We grow and maintain outdoor Bonsai trees and our girls LOVE them.  They help to take care of them and have learned the quiet art of this fascinating hobby ( I was hooked after seeing Monks in China work on a single plant for hours!).  I just found that in North Carolina there is an arboretum growing native tree's in miniature!  This sounds like a fantastic spot for a family visit.
