If you are trying to choose a baby gift for a friend or co-worker, remember back to your first month of parenthood. The best gift you received (or wish you did) was a home-cooked meal, fresh or frozen, to take one major chore off your list for a day. Remember, the new mom can buy cute clothes and bedding dirt cheap at a discount store, or get hand-me-downs, or even go to yard sales, but to avoid cooking costs a pretty penny for take-out. If you give a meal as a gift, try to include side dishes and dessert, and perhaps a small toy for the big brother or sister of the baby. Include preparation instructions, and maybe even a small bottle of wine for mom and dad.
