If you can find the time to read a BOOK during your child's first year that is not a "how-to" book, I HIGHLY recommend Operating Instructions by Anne Lamott.  She journals her son's first year and captures universal moments with such humor.  It is a laugh out loud book.  I read it for the first time when my daughter was around four months-old and I still reread parts from it whenever I am in need of a smile
