Don't buy a calendar this year. Edhelper.com is a website for teachers with a membership fee, but lots of free stuff for non-members too. Every month for years I've been printing out a calendar for my classroom. Each day has either an obscure holiday, fun fact, or made up silliness with lots of illustrations and color. My students read it every single day-it's amazing how little things like this amuse them. Your kids might enjoy it too.
