If your child is a dinosaur nut, don't miss the fossils on exhibit at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. There is free admission to Massachusetts residents on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, as well as special talks on live creatures. The museum has a perfect scale for children-friendly and not too big. Rock collectors, budding botanists and animal lovers will find plenty to explore. Our family visits regularly.

Wednesday afternoons are great because they're less crowded and also they have Gallery Guides in the galleries with real specimens kids can examine closely and even touch. Imagine touching a 4.5 billion year old meteorite.
