Holiday centerpieces can be expensive, so before Thanksgiving, Christmas or any holiday my husband takes the kids on a nature walk. Their assignment is to bring me back items that I can use as a centerpiece. A huge orange leaf and pine cones can be a simple centerpiece for a small table. They have brought me back holly, rocks, acorns, flowers...you name it. With a little imagination and the addition of things we already have it all comes together. It is wonderful to see how proud they are to have helped and it gets everyone out of the house for a while so I can cook and set the table.
