The only Saturday I won't have trouble getting my folks excited to go on an all-family daytrip is the first Saturday in December. Why? Because this is our Christmas tree cutting day. My baby grand-daughter, her young mom, my teenage nephew as well as my almost 50-year-old partner and of course I myself (I am not going to tell you my age though) love to pack a picnic basket and drive to the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The Patchen Tree Farm is a place of laughter but also of debate. To discuss and finally agree on the one and only Douglas Fir that should be the center of attention in the living room on Christmas Day is a tough process, a good communication workshop for folks like us who live together under one roof. A family who can chose a tree together knows how to communicate.
Cut your own Christmas tree would be my tip for today if you want to get a breath of fresh air together with your peeps while doing Christmas shopping.
