When my son was little I found the perfect way to get him to behave around Christmas.  I bought a set of cheap bells and attached them to a string with some fishing line.  I hung the line across the bathroom window, about two feet up.  the cats loved to play with the bells but my son didn't realize it.  I told him when he heard the bells it meant that Santa was watching him.  He was very well behaved for the entire month.
