"Do you have any suggestions for storing kids' SCHOOL WORK. I'm talking about the worksheets, tests, etc. I don't want to have 48 awkward bins around the house by the time they're all done high school. If you have any good ideas, I'd love to hear"

This is a great question for school-agers!!!

Yes, there is a way to get those papers out of those bins! Make a binder portfolio. This suggestion is better for school work…not artwork. Take the school work you LOVE and place them in a clear protective sleeves that’s inserted into a three ring notebook. You can get two pages front and back into one sleeve for easy viewing as you flip thru. This allows children to see their work and protect the work. You can have a couple of years on one large notebook or a new small notebook for every year, depending on what your needs are! This is a great way to show off the work your kids are doing to family and friends, too.

Hope this helps.

I use a very large 3 ring binder and 3-hole punch my Kindergartener's work and put into the binder. I also organize from Sept-June and divide by grade. I have been doing this since preschool. I enjoy flipping thru and seeing how the grades, handwriting etc has changed over the months.
