Here's a nice New York Times article talking about different ways to shovel snow (yech!) and different types of shovels for different uses. For example, rub floor wax or silicone on your shovel to help the snow slide off. Bent handle shovels really work for saving wear and tear on your back. And, contrary to my husband's opinion, spread your salt or other ice melt stuff as soon as it starts snowing to prevent a good bond between the cement and the snow.
