Who wouldn't love a cake that tastes like a candy bar? I loved this rich cake as a child and I still bring it out for special occasions. Warning: this cake contains nuts, although they could be easily omitted.
1 German Chocolate cake mix (plus whatever ingredients called for in the directions on the box)
1 stick butter
30 wrapped caramels (I usually use Kraft)
3/4 c. chopped nuts
3/4 c. chocolate chips
1 tablespoon milk
Prepare cake mix per directions on box. Put a little more than half the batter in a greased and floured 9x13-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. While cake bakes, melt butter and caramels with milk over low heat. Pour caramel mixture on cake when done baking. Add chocolate chips and nuts. Top with remaining batter, but you don't need to completely cover the middle layer. It's good if the caramel bubbles through. Bake 20 minutes more at 250 degrees and an additional 10 minutes at 350. Needs no frosting.
