Communication Skills for Kids
Ages:
K-5th Grade
By:MomsLifesavers

Kids and chatting go hand in hand, but effective communication needs guidance and here are some ideas to help kids to do it well:

1. Encourage Talking.  Let the kids talk to you about their day and feelings.  This never comes up when you ask for it, but be open to drop everything when they become inspired to talk.  Being a good ear is key, as that is the best thing to teach as well - GOOD LISTENING.  You can listen to their stories, watch mini-plays, songs and jokes.

2. Encourage Reading. Make reading and books a true priority.  So much in school hinges on this ability and the more exposure the better!  Take trips to the library and bookstore often.  Ask about what they are reading and never stop reading to them!

3. Encourage Writing. Have a journal and pencils and pens available at all times.  Find a penpal, have them make your grocery list and offer them ideas on how to keep a diary!

Have fun!

Good suggestion! But how can I get detail information from kids if they do not want to talk too much? I might be misleading. Do you have any good advice on that? Thanks!
