The Weekend Gardener's GrowGuide tells you what vegetables you should start seeding indoors when so that they've sprouted by the time they're ready to be transplanted outdoors. You just plug in your first and last frost dates for your region (I Googled this) and the date you want to start planting seeds.

Of course, starting seeds indoors is a great way to get kids involved in gardening. They can watch the seeds sprout and grow before their eyes. Seeds can be started in seed pots or just halved egg shells in egg cartons or empty plastic containers. You don't need to be fancy.
