This non-profit will come pick up your items, even furniture and distributes to families in crisis.  You get a tax reciept and I love the free pick up, especially since it is so hard to find that when you have big items to get rid of.  There are certain requirements on what they do not take (like no rips or tears on furniture).  Most of these donations go to women and children fleeing domestic violent situations.
