A friend gave me this really great tip for getting that stubborn pet hair out of area rugs. This is really great! She taught me to use your regular household rubber gloves to clean those rugs! All you do is slightly moisten the glove (you will need the other hand to clean that glove), and just swipe it across the rug, in gentle motions. It picks up that hair like a magnet! You just have to rinse and slightly dry the glove every so often, and you will have a clean rug! Of course, this is a bit time-consuming, but at least you don't have to struggle with the vacuum cleaner! :)

I also use my dog's own brush or comb on the stairs to pick up the fur. Much, much easier than handling the vaccuum on the staircase.
