Get Rid of Ants
Ages:
General Interest
By:jesmom

From my money-saving ezine: Every year we experience distress when we find ants building mounds and entering our house in the spring time. We are against the chemicals and traps, as we have a mischievous toddler, and don't have a lot of money for the 'bug man' to treat our home and property. My mom suggested an old trick she used in the past - Instant Grits! Just open the packet and sprinkle dry on the mounds in your yard or in the area of your home where you maybe finding them. Once the ants eat the grits, it kills them! We are now ant free and it only cost a few dollars for the box of instant grits instead of the nearly $300 the bug man wanted to charge us!

I have tried grits and it worked well for what i call regular ants...but here in florida it doesn't help with fire ants! Ashlee B

My mom used to use cucumber peels when we were kids. She'd put a couple of peels any place the ants were coming in and they'd stay away. The grits technique is obviously better for a permanent solution so I'm going to try that as well but if you are in a pinch and you've got a cucumber in the refrigerator... :)

Instant grits are sold in the northeast in the cereal aisle along with oatmeal etc. I will definitely have to try this trick.

Not sure if they sell instant grits in the North East, but will have to look!
