One of the most fun restaurant experiences with kids is rolling cart yum cha, or dim sum - a chinese brunch offering that is traditionally accompanied by jasmine tea. Only a handful of restaurants in Austin offer this delight, and one of our favorites is Shanghai. Servers push carts around the dining room, laden with steamed dumplings such as siu mye (pork and shrimp meatballs in a wheat noodle wrapper), and har gao (shrimp in rice paper wrappers), as well as roasted duck, steamed and baked pork buns, and many other delicacies. So, your antsy, hungry kid will get something on his or her plate almost immediately after being seated, and they have such a great time helping pick which of the myriad dishes to choose. Other dishes are available, but the dim sum is the real draw.
