The Chattahoochee Naional River Parks stretch along the Chattahoochee River from just below Buford Dam to the Intersection of I75 and 285 on the North side of Atlanta.  This string of parks offers hiking, canoeing, fishing, wading and picnicing and cycling trails.  The river is clean and stocked with trout.  Georgia Fishing Regulations apply.  While I would not drink the water, people often swim, wade, raft, canoe, and kayakin these waters.  Beware, the water can be quite cold.  The river often runs very clear and depths can be deceiving.  There can also be currents in places.  If you are not a strong swimmer, it is probably best that you stay out or in the shallows.

Parking and Picnic facillities are available at most of the park facillities as well as toilets and water.  Parking is three dollars per day admission is free.  The hiking is marvelous with a wide variety of birds, mammals (beavers, otters, raccoon, fox) and the usual lizard, snakes and insects. The park is open year round from 6:00 AM until Dark. There are local concessions to rent rafts and canoes along the river outside the park boundaries.  This is a favorite activity during those hot summer months.  If you like the outdoors and want to spend an inexpensive afternoon, this can't be beaten.
