Are you a family that has different spiritual beliefs?  If so, my son and I have developed a prayer that helps him connect to a Maker, Creator, God figure at night, that isn't slanted towards one belief system or another.  He has been saying it now for a couple of years and it is a very important part of his bedtime routine.  His little brother now is saying it adding his own flair. 

The basic prayer is:

"God bless my eyes that I may always see beauty,

God bless my ears that I may always listen to my mommy and daddy, 

God bless my mouth that I may always say kind words, 

God bless my brain that I may always make good decisions, 

God bless my hands that I may always be helpful, 

God bless my heart that I may always love, 

God bless my soul that it may always shine bright, 

God bless my family and friends that they may always be healthy and happy. 

Amen"
