I found these plastic masks in craft stores and had a terrible time painting them until I used fabric paints.  Those little 2 oz, plastic squeeze bottles actually hold quite a lot and there are so many color choices.  It takes a little while for them to dry but the paint also works well to secure glitter and feathers and little gems and stickers and all sorts of craft items.  Let me know how it works for you.
