Recently I discovered an awesome little bike for my 3 year old. It doesn't have any pedals and it is made out of wood.   I bought the skuut brand bike, but I know that Target also sells one that is similar.  It is a great bike to learn how to glide, balance and steer.  My son has been "skuutting" all over our driveway, grass and even on the dirt paths near our house.  He is independent, comfortable and everyday is gaining more confidence. It is light and easy to throw in the trunk for excursions.  I can imagine that when we switch to a real bike, he won't even need training wheels.   The bike is a bit spendy, but worth it.  I bought mine on Amazon for $75.
