If buying local and organic is important to you, then you must check out the Charlotte Tailgate Farmer’s Market. Located at the corner of Camden St. and Park Ave in the South End, the Tailgate is open during growing season on Tuesdays from 4-7pm and Saturdays from 8am-9pm. You’ll find all sorts of great vendors there like: The Secret Chocolatier, SkyeTurtle Jewelry, Green Monster Gardens, Small City Farms, Fisher Farms, Grateful Growers, Down Home Baking Company, Little Tree Trimmings and Felicitea’s. Many of the farms and vendors have free samples for you to try. My favorite samples are the chocolate truffles, the infused oils, and the pecan tarts. The Market is very family friendly. The manager of the market, Lynn, often offers fun things for the kids to do whil e e you shop: listen to live music, plant a lettuce garden, swap cookbooks, play ring toss, and more! You can easily get to the tailgate by riding the light rail to historic South End. Make it a family fun day and take everyone out for local goodies!
