Every day my 5 yr old always asks me what she is doing today, tomorrow and the next day and I got tired of telling her over and over again. Since she is only 5, she can't read or understand our regular family calendar with all the notes. I went to Michael's Arts and Crafts and got her a cute calendar for only $1.00 and I made it into her own reference calendar. To make it easier for her to see, I placed it at her level on the side of the refridgerator with various symbols that stood for certain things:
One side of the calendar lists the symbols and what they stand for so she doesn't forget: G = gymnastics class, D = dance class, B = when our babysitter comes and a party hat is a symbol for a birthday party etc.
She loves it and whenever she wants to know what she is doing, she looks at the calendar and it helps reinforce reading, being more independant and recognizing letters. Plus this was so cheap and easy to do!
