Can any of us forget the middle school teacher that was caught trafficking in drugs while being stopped for DUI? or how about the current teacher charged with having sex with a 14 year old student? The headlines of a teacher being charged with drug possession, dui's, contributing to a minor, and child molestation are becoming all too common; makes you wonder if you will read your child’s teacher’s name next.

Some people may think that teachers should be able to do what they want outside the classroom, but do you honestly think that their values do not come right back in the classroom, consequently, influencing your children.  Do you want your child's teacher to use drugs, be parading promiscuity, drinking excessively, etc.? or do you want them to have standards, since they are the ones that will be teaching, influencing, and sharing their values with your child for five days a week, seven hours a day, the majority of the year?

Imagine the worst, and you will discover what a large number of teachers do when they shut the classroom door for the day.  Do I think that all teachers are like this.... absolutely not! Unfortunately, though, I know too many that are.  Don’t wait for your child’s teacher to be on the news.  You, as a parent, have the ability to make a difference.  Voice your opinions to all that will listen: fellow parents, teachers, principals, your community, and the school board.

It is about time that the school system fill the schools with individuals that we would be proud to have our children imitate.  It is about time for the teachers to be the ones to make the grade.
