Who doesn't love Arthur, the amiable, loveable character that has warmed his way into the hearts of young and old alike? If you are like most parents, you probably are quite familiar with Arthur. If you are like most parents, you are probably concerned about your child's total development, as well.
Learning ABC's and 123's go hand in hand with learning how to get along with others. Since social-emotional development is tied to your child's general success in life, it's an area that deserves attention. What better way to encourage positive prosocial behavior than with a fun activity that can include the whole family? This link will provide with directions to make a "Kindness Tree" that help remind your child and your whole family about getting along with others and reaching out with kindness!
One thing to keep in mind when it comes to social and emotional development, is that there is a learning curve involved, just like there is in your child learning how to tie his shoes. We have to teach the skill over and over again, until the child finally "gets" it. The same is true with social emotional learning. When you know that you will have teach kindness skills over and over again, it becomes less frustrating to you as a parent. Repetition is the name of the game. Remember to focus on progress and not perfection when it comes to your child mastering social emotional skills...and don't forget to reward his efforts with plenty of praise!
