When my normally articulate 3 year old started stuttering, I tried to brush it aside thinking that it was just a phase. However the 'phase' continued long enough for me to consult her school's speech therapist. My initial hunch was right, and I was told that stuttering among preschool aged children was not very uncommon. The 3-5 age range is a crucial one for speech and language development, and stuttering happens during rapid languge acquisition.
I wrote this article on ehow to share the tips that were given to me by the school's speech therapist. My daughter's stuttering was temporary and disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared.
