Many parents of gifted children know full well that along with giftedness can come certain intensities of emotion.  Often, typical parenting books fall short in helping parents of such kids develop social and emotional skills that are necessary for healthy adjustment.  Because gifted children often develop in a dysynchronous manner, it is difficult to know how to respond to their needs.  This can leave gifted children "at risk".  Visiting Hoagie's Gifted Education Pages  http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/social_emotional.htm can be a tremendous help in assisting gifted children develop all aspects of themselves.  It also provides numerous articles that can help parents make some of the difficult decisions which must be made in educating these children.
