When you think about bamboo, images of pandas in China probably enter your mind. But, have you ever thought about the possibility of using bamboo bedding? There are so many advantages to using bamboo sheets that it's hard to know where to begin.

First of all, bamboo is extremely renewable. Some types of bamboo can grow up to a foot EVERY DAY!

Bamboo is also antiseptic. I won't go into all of the scientific details, but basically, a test was done on bamboo sheets a few years ago. Scientists put some type of bacteria onto the sheets and then tested 24 hours later to see how much of the bacteria was left, and 99.8% of the bacteria had been killed! If scientific details are your thing, you can read all about it at Treehugger.com.

Because of this great anti-germ property of bamboo, no pesticides ever have to be used while it's growing - unlike traditional cotton, where tons and tons of pesticides are used every day.

Another great benefit to using bamboo bedding is the fact that it has some thermal properties that help to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer months.

I would compare the feel of bamboo sheets to that of silk or satin. They are very comfortable, but not slippery.

Possibly the best news for a budget-minded family? Bamboo bedding is extremely reasonable. A set of sheets starts at about $30. Just like cotton, prices rise based on thread count, but the fact is you can pick up a set of sheets for a great deal. Watch for sales and save even more!

One of my daughters has bamboo sheets. I had no idea when I bought them. She wanted pink sheets so I bought the only pink twin-sized sheets in the store I was at. I read the tag when I got home and thought it was weird but they are THE softest sheets! I love them and plan to buy them for the rest of us!!
