A lot of couples who are considering adoption, think that when they adopt a baby, they are getting a clean slate. I'm not sure how many couples read adoption books before making the decision to adopt, but The Primal Wound by Nancy Verrier is a must-read for every couple that is considering this.

I am an adopted child. My adoptive parents are wonderful, loving people. I never realized that being adopted had any effect on the person I was until I started reading adoption books.  When I read this book by Nancy Verrier, I felt like she knew me intimately. All of the things she spoke about mirrored the way that I felt and the way that I acted, especially as a teenager.

As an adopted child who feels extremely blessed to have been raised by wonderful people, I think that it's extremely important for all parents who are considering adoption or have already adopted to read this book.  The facts are that adopted children made up extremely high percentages of teens who are in residential treatment facilities or are in trouble. It's also now known that babies form a relationship with their birth mother while in the womb. Understanding that your adopted baby may actually have feelings about her birthmother can help you to become the best adoptive parents that you can be.

There are lots of adoption books on the market, and it's great to read as many as you can, but don't miss The Primal Wound by Nancy Verrier.
