When we moved to Hawaii, we decided to start looking at telescopes for kids. The night sky here is amazing and I wanted my kids to be able to see stars, planets, and the moon up close and personal.  On the flip side, I didn't want to pay a fortune for a telescope.

After looking....and looking...and looking, I finally asked someone I knew who worked at the Mauna Kea Observatory. For those of you who don't know, there are huge telescopes up there and scientists from all over the country. Anyway, he recommended the Meade 70AZ-A Telescope as being one of the best, most affordable telescopes for kids.

I had heard good things about Meade before and trusted that this guy knew what he was talking about, so we bought the telescope.  We've had it a year now and I've been completely pleased. It does much more than what I would expect from a $100 telescope, and my kids really enjoy using it.

If your kids are interested in science, or you'd like them to be more interested in science, consider the  Meade 70AZ-A Telescope as you look for a telescope.  Meade has other less and more expensive telescopes on the market, and if their other options are anything like the one we ended up with, they are all a great deal.
