The reason I think we feel better with home cooked unprocessed foods has less to do with the calories, nutrients and fat in what we're eating and more to do with fewer "intermediate experiences" for the food. The unethical and harmful practices of the Peanut Corporation of American and stories of illness related to the peanut butter recall have perhaps gotten people thinking a little bit more about where food is coming from and what processes it goes through to get to their plate.
A most recent incident involved one individual poisoning baby food and drinks in a grocery store. On Tuesday, February 17th a Florida woman was charged with poisoning baby food products in a local grocery store. The woman was wearing rubber gloves and pouring some black acrid substance into baby food and juice containers. This went on for fifteen minutes, as seen on the security cameras, unnoticed as the woman walked up and down the grocery store aisles. This is a smaller scale occurrence but one that reminds us the value of the safety seal on the foods we buy especially for our children.
