The morning sickness that I experienced when I was pregnant was enough to make me never, ever want to consider having another baby again. Fortunately, I forgot how bad it was soon after it ended and was able to successfully get pregnant again!
However, there are some creative ways to cure morning sickness, or at least make it a little more bearable. Following is a list of things that worked for me. I hope some of them will help others to get past those first few months of feeling miserable because pregnancy is just no fun when you feel like you've been run over by a bus all the time!
~ Smelling lemons did wonders for me. I actually carried around a cut lemon in a little baggie for the first few months of each pregnancy and every once in awhile I'd have to open it up for a sniff to deal with a wave of nausea. I'm sure people thought I was a little strange, but it beat throwing up in front of them. I also put lemon juice on salads and that helped a lot.
~ Ginger is a great natural cure for morning sickness. If you don't like the taste of ginger, try drinking ginger tea. You can even get ginger lozenges at a health food store that may help.
~ There is also a spot, just above the belly button, that can relieve nausea if pressure is put on it. I used to press that area to deal with feeling ill. The only problem is that it seemed to only relieve the syptoms for a few moments and then I'd have to do it all over again.
~ Sprite and/or crackers by your bed can do wonders as a way to cure morning sickness. Eating something before you get out of bed can help to relieve that first wave of nausea. Waking up a little while before you actually have to get out of bed can help as well.
~ The smell of peppermint works wonders for some women. You can pick up a small bottle of peppermint oil and then smell it when you start feeling ill. Others have said that a peppermint candy or peppermint tea has really helped them.
~ There is some research that shows that Vitamin B6 can help with morning sickness. Talk to your doctor before adding additional B6 to your regimen as you should already be getting a large dose in your prenatal vitamins.
~ Eat frequently throughout the day. If you let yourself get too hungry, you're likely to get sick and then you won't feel like eating at all.
~ Stay in bed! I know this isn't an option for many people - I had to work throughout my pregnancy, but when you have the chance, don't force yourself to get up if you don't feel well! It's okay to spend the day just lying around - if this is your first pregnancy, the days that you have left to do that are winding down, so take advantage of them now!!
You may not be able to cure morning sickness, buy hopefully you'll make it at least a little more manageable! If all else fails or if you are really sick and not able to eat, be sure to talk to your doctor.
