The latest kind of fraud targets our cell phones through text messages. And we all know how much our kids love to text! This phishing scam involves unsolicited text messages sent to cell phones. The message typically prompts you to call a toll-free number alerting you about a discrepancy in one of your accounts (a bank or other account). And then of course the bogus caller tries to get your PIN number or individual information.
Watch out for unsolicited text messages
They should always be detected and deleted because perpetrators can send Spyware along with the message. Spyware is installed on your computer or cell phone without your consent. It then works to monitor and even control your use of the phone or computer.
Once in your cell phone, it can monitor your Internet habits and activity, and make a copy of your phone contacts. It also records your keystrokes, which can later result in forms of identity theft.
