I absolutely love the Mary Poppins song "Let's go fly a kite." It brings back such nostalgia. Last year I took my daughter to the Kitefest in DC at the Washington Monument and it was her first time with a kite ever, she had just turned 3. I went to Tarjay and bought a Sesame Street one for 2.99. That quite flew 5 hours with 2 repairs! Since it was a professional event, they had people on hand to fix or mend worn out kites.
After that festival we got the fever so to speak, so I had to get another one. So, I went back to the T store and got a Barbie one for the same price. The kite always stayed in the car and no matter where we went, if it was windy and there was space, we could break the kite out at a moments notice.
So, in October we went to a beach about 3 hours from us-the closest one to DC and it was so windy that we could not control the kite. Instead we tied it to the stroller. That kite stayed on the stroller all day long, no worse for the wear. It was so funny, because people would just stare, because it was kinda bizarre to have a kite flying with no person attached to it. But those cheap kites offer so many fun times and thrills and seem to have less problems staying up than the box kites that are out of the fab material.
My tip-buy one and leave it in your car. It will make your kid so happy on a whim in a parking lot, or if you are driving and it is a windy day to pull over and break the kite out. That 2.99 plus tax is worth a million dollars to see your kid so delighted, and to discover that ever sought after fountain of youth!
Cheers!
