Today more than ever many families are having a hard time with living expenses. Summer is right around the corner, one of the most popular times of the year to take a vacation, and many of us might not be able to schedule a family vacation this year. Even though times are rough that shouldn't stop any family from having some special time together. This year instead of a traditional vacation, you might want  to try a "staycation".

When your family goes on a "staycation" which is a fun and relaxing vacation without having to travel anywhere, you don't have to worry about high gas prices, stress out when taking an airplane, etc. Wow, is that great??!!

Here are some great "staycation" ideas for you and your family from Travelwithkids.about.com:

1. Staying in your home

- do day trips to visit attractions in your area

- try fun outings such as duck tour or a ghost walk

- stay in and enjoy family time while relaxing; hire a house-cleaning service, eat out or order in.

2. Stay at a local family-friendly hotel

- many hotels offer cool kids' programs and budget-minded choices are also available

- gives you an opportunity to do sightseeing, take outings, or just relax.

The bottom line is no matter where you are, if you can relax, do fun stuff with your family, leave work behind, then that's a true vacation, even if it's at your own home. Keep in mind that a  vacation is really about the state of mind. Happy vacationing everyone!

Letterboxing! It's a family-friendly treasure hunt that costs nothing and is a super way to build family unity while getting you outside. Letterboxing.org or atlasquest.com get you started. So much fun!!!

Our kids love camping and campfire roasting. We set up a tent in the backyard, make a campfire (don't forget to get a permit), roast hotdogs and marshmallows, sing songs and tell stories. We watch the stars and pick out the constellations.Since we live in the woods we take a morning hike the next morning and look for items to make a nature book with. This is always most fun in the spring and fall when trees and plants are awakening from the winter and when the colors are changing. Happy camping! This is a great stayvacation for camping and the restroom is always close.
