When the disappearance of Adam Walsh made national headlines in 1983 with the movie entitled simply, "Adam," a mother of four contacted an organization (now defunct) that went by the name, "Child Abuse Prevention Speaker's Bureau." This mother wanted to put together a book that would help her children feel empowered if anybody – ANYBODY – tried to harm them.

That contact, made in the 1980's, resulted in a booklet. Endorsed by The Child Abuse Prevention Speaker's Bureau, "You Are The Boss Of Your Body" detailed specific non-threatening scenarios to teach children how to claim the right to take control of their own bodies. Because the book used anatomically correct terminology, many publishers refused to publish it and You Are the Boss of Your Body went by the wayside.

With the proliferation of child pornography, the author of You Are the Boss of Your Body decided to offer it free to anybody who contacted her. Information about how to obtain the booklet is included in the article.
