A Cheaper Way to Get Sustainable Straws

Reusable straws are all the rage these days, and with good reason.  Millions of straws are produced, used, and disposed of every day.  Which means resources wasted and plastic discarded.  Reusable straws are available online in glass, aluminum, and even bamboo, but will run you $7 and upwards.  7-Eleven now offers .99 cent aluminum slurpee straws that are cute, reusable, and totally affordable.  It's an easy and cheap way to make a step in the green direction!

These (the aluminum) are dishwasher friendly, but we don't have one. I wash mine by hand and find that running soapy water through them makes for an effective cleaning on the aluminum, especially since these particular straws have such a wide opening.

This is a great idea. However, how do you wash these straws without a dishwasher. Washing straws by hand does not that seem the straws would get very clean. Is there a certain brush to clean straws? Thank you Lesi
