My kids love the fall, just like I did when I was their age. Leaves fall, the bus comes in the cool mornings and Halloween is near – these are pleasures that summer can’t touch.

Fortunately, we experienced the nicely timed confluence of a few things last weekend, including a warm, bright Sunday, an Eagles’ bye week, and the strong desire of everyone under four feet tall in our house to get some pumpkins. So we decided to try a market in Media, PA, which my wife heard about.

Linvilla Orchards, a few miles from the Blue Route, offers many fun fall activities on its 300 acres, like hayrides, pick-your-own apple orchards, a big playground for kids, pony rides, farm animals to see and a year-round Farm Market and bakery.  Plus, there were huge piles of pumpkins to pick from.

The fun isn’t limited to just pumpkins. There are festivals, special events and concerts during the year, and special hayrides for kids scheduled through at least Halloween. Check the website for all the details.

I think we’ll go again this year. After all our rides, pumpkin picking, jumping around the playground, and hiking through the apple orchards (better go quickly!), the ride home got really quiet.
