There are lots of tips about games and activities to do with young kids while waiting at a restaurant or doctor's office. Here is one for older kids and teens. I love the show Chopped on FoodNetwork. The four chefs are given a basket with unrelated foods, and have to incorporate them all into an appetizer. Then, there is an entree round and a dessert round. Sometimes, the food items really do not seem to go together, but they have to use all the items in their basket. The judges decide which is worst, and that chef is chopped. One chef remains after dessert and wins. We play this at home. I make up ingredients and give them to the kids, and they try to come up with the best sounding recipe. It has to be doable in the time alloted (20 minutes for appetizers, 30 for entrees and desserts). Even though they don't actually cook the food, I can tell which would have tasted best if everything was executed perfectly, and that kid wins the round.
