Who Took the Hair Brush Again? Who Lost the Remote Control?
Ages:
General Interest
By:David M.

In our family of eight we were constantly chasing the hair brushs, and the remote control.  Every morning getting ready for school the parents faced the daily mantra of who took the hair brush out of the bathroom? Or who took my hair brush? Or where is the hair brush.  Or mom, dad, sister is using my hair brush because she can't find her own.

Getting out the door can be a stressful time for any family, but especially a large family.  I finally found a simple but effective solution.  I purchased some really nice, high quality brushes.   Then I tied a piece of 6 foot long fishing line to the handle of the brush.   I then tied the other end of the fishing line to an eye hook I attached in the bathroom closet.   After that great day every morning for months we knew exactly where the brushes were.  Finally there was one less thing to worry about, and to slow us down.  Peace was restored.

But all good things come to an end, and after about 6 months, "an unknown culprit" decided to cut the fishing line and "borrow" the brush.  We quickly ruled out a few of the possible suspects because of their messy hair, but we were never able to find the culprit who cut the fishing line. But after a quick trip to the local home improvement center, I restored our morning sanity by purchasing some vinyl coated 3/32 wire rope.   This is very thin and very flexible, and best of all sissor proof!  The cable  can be easily attached with what they call "swag sleeves" which crimp on the cable.  Google them to see what they look like, but they are available at any home center, where you can buy the cable for a few cents a foot.

Peace was at last restored with the wire rope, but it gets even better.   I found out you can attach the stapler to the desk. You can attach the nail clipper.  And if you really want to live the high life, attach the TV remote control to your favorite chair.  A few carefully drilled small hole in any object will allow you to secure it.    Victory over chaos, at least for now.

I think this is a great idea considering how many people are in the house. Gee I only have one Daughter and even we manage to lose things and I shake my head.

Cute idea, but I'm not sure if the house might start to look like the bank counter? Anyway, I solved this problem a totally different way. Instead of buying some good quality items, I went to the dollar store and bought quantity. We have about 10 pairs of scissors, hundreds of pens, 5 or 6 staplers and 5 or 6 scotch tape dispensers. Now, even when they go missing, it's easy to find another.
