Well I actually learned a few things especially now that I find myself doing more international transactions. A golden rule that we often get lazy to follow is to READ THE FINE PRINT. Very important when it comes to your money.
Also, the tip about loyalty and longevity is true. I've been with the same institution for 20 years although it has been bought out by bank after bank after bank. This gives me leverage when I suddenly see new "fees" on an account and I call explaining how long I have been a customer and stayed with ABC bank for 21 + years. I'll even pull out my original bank card.
This is great to share with children leaving the nest, moving out of home and starting new lives. Teach them now not to rush in selecting banks, opening accounts and establishing credit. ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
