Disney is currently offering refunds for the Baby Einstein DVD/Videos purchased between June 2004 and Sept  2009. This is apparently in response  to a complaint filed with the FTC by the CFCC (Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood) asserting that Disney's "educational" claims about the Baby Einstein Videos were "false and deceptive advertising". Additionally, the complaint also highlights the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation of "no TV viewing for children under 2 yrs of age, regardless of content".This also comes at a time when several studies have begun associating early childhood screen time with subsequent attention difficulties.

As part of the settlement, "the Baby Einstein company will refund $15.99 for up to four "Baby Einstein" DVDs per household, bought between June 5, 2004, and Sept. 5, 2009, and returned to the company. The deal enables parents to exchange their video for a different title, receive a discount coupon, or get $15.99 each for up to four returned DVDs, requires no receipt, and lasts until next March 10" (KTLA NEWS). So start gathering up those video ...cause it looks like you don't need a receipt! Yippee!  I'd be interested to hear from others on how long it takes for your refund...or what others think about the whole issue!??

At a time when the proliferation of media has seemed to offer parents a helping hand..relief....a break...I think this reminds us that there is no substitute for good ole human interaction..especially for the teenie tiny ones!!

Whether any of us decides to pursue a refund is a personal choice, whether it is a matter of principle or whether we are just plain sick of the DVDs! We should spare each other our judgment and criticism and instead direct it toward those who choose to play on our fears and anxieties as parents. Not every parent is as educated and well informed as we would like and it is usually these parents that fall prey to deceptive advertising. Also I think most parents would appreciate not feeling judged or shamed by the fact we may have left our toddlers in front of the television for one too many minutes. As for me and my family…we will hold onto our collection of well loved Baby Einstein videos…..(however I must say I was excited about the “refund without a receipt”…after having negotiated many returns and exchanges this was a big bonus in my opinion - big company acknowledging something wrong and not making us jump thru hoops…woo hoo!!)

Is there no end to the lawsuits??? Anyone who truly thought their baby would be a genius by watching Baby Einstein is a complete fool. Stop trying to blame someone else. Don't return your DVDs--just pass them onto a new mom and tell her to use them sparingly without expectations. Ugh!

I agree with PP. My kids love their Baby Einstein videos so why would I join this smear campaign and return them? At 3 and 2 they are still enjoying the ones they received at birth. How sad the poster is so excited about this. And my family normally doesn't support Disney.

I totally agree with you, this is just another excuse to sue. Take responsibility for your children please! My first daughter also watched the Baby Einstein videos and there is no problem with her attention and is she is very smart and curious about the world around her. If you actually sit with your children and talk about what they are watching, and not use it as a baby sitter, you might see a difference in your child.

We loved them all and enjoyed the serenity of the "Water" video the best. Our son is now 3 1/2 and is heavily into books, the alphabet, his numbers. No attention problems there! I, too, enjoyed watching them with him... and never got "tired" of them. I also believe it's how the parents interacts with the child... meaning TIME. Although admittedly, there have been times when I did use the video as a break for Mom or when we traveled or when he was sick. It's sad that these videos are now considered controversial. I would buy them again in a heartbeat for the next one... we have overloved ours! POOH on those who instigated this. It's like the old saying goes "EVERYTHING IN MODERATION"! I will NOT be asking for a refund.

Http://www.babyeinstein.com/refund/ Folks should read this before rushing to return your old movies. I think it's sad that Disney is being smeared like this. The refund program should only be used by parents who actually feel that they were mislead or the products were not as represented. It's not a recall, they are simply announcing that they will honor their existing refund policy. My daughter enjoyed the DVDs very occasionally so that I could take a quick shower. I'm certainly not going to pack them up and ask for a refund now that she's outgrown them. They were cute and fun DVDs to use occasionally--just as I expected when I bought them.

I think this is just another reason to sue somebody and try get your money back for making a choice and believing marketing advertisements. What a crock! You are not supposed to leave you kids parked in front of the T.V. 24/7 and expect them to be a genius. Those videos should have been used in conjuction with the parents human interactions and reinforcement. I think consumers should take responsibility for their decisions. My children, now 6 and 7, did watch all of the Baby Einstein videos. There is nothing wrong with their attention span or learning abilities. My children were reading at 3-4 years old and are in advanced reading and math classes for their grade levels.
