If you live in the Boston area and you are looking for an quick adult getway for a night, I highly recommend Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle, New Hampshire.  It reminds me a lot of the Mount Washington Hotel - but with water views.  Very pretty setting with a nice spa and small fitness center.  The room was gorgeous with heated marble floors in the bathroom and a wonderful water view looking towards Portsmouth, NH.  There are indoor and outdoor pools and two jacuzzis.  The grounds are beautiful and even though there were three weddings going on when we were there, we hardly knew they were there.  The Sunday Brunch was delicious and had everything from fresh raspberries and blueberries to fresh waffles and omelets.  And the Kittery Outlets [Hanna Andersson!] and downtown Portsmouth, NH, are a short drive.

There were kids there when we were visiting, but I don't consider it overly kid-friendly.  They do have a kids menu and hand out coloring sheets and crayons in the formal dining room - but my kids would not have been happy.  The room service menu also had children's items.  Another option for eating with kids there is a small clam shack type place down at the marina - it looked like fun with picnic tables looking out over the boats.
