Right now I'm wondering if my child has an ear infection from a cold (no symptoms) or just ear pain from swimming like a fish lately.  I found this great article about ear pain entitled; Don't Fear the Ear Pain and it distinguishes a need to visit the doctor or home treatment for the possible "swimmers ear".  I learned a lot!

While visiting my, 7 year old brother swam every day at camp and developed swimmers ear (which I had not known about before). The doctor explained one way to distinguish between an internal ear infection and an external ear infection (swimmers ear) is that if the ear is sensitive to touch then that is indicating an external infection. The slightest brush would cause my brother to flinch. The home remedy of equal parts of Alcohol and Vinegar worked wonders! We put it in every evening after swimming and never had another occurrence of swimmers ear!
