I visited Tougas Farm this week with my daughter’s preschool, and enjoyed it so much that I went again this weekend. It’s a very friendly, well-run family farm. You buy your bag before you set out for the orchard, and they come in two sizes, a 1/2 bushel or a peck. I liked that the bags are sized because then you know how much you are actually picking. I have been to orchards where you get regular bags, and you can easily pick more than you intended because apples are so heavy. After you take the tractor ride out to the orchard, the workers tell you what apples are available and where they are, and you can even upgrade your bag if you want. There are still plenty of apples to pick, and they carry many different varieties. Then there’s still lots for the kids to do after picking, with a corn maze, a playground, and a barnyard with animals. The cider donuts are delicious, and the kitchen sells many other goodies. It’s worth a visit while we have this beautiful weather.
